A personal perspective on education for girls and women in 
Nigeria: Challenges and Opportunities.

Dr. Ufoegbune (oof-way-boo-nay) is currently Director of Headstart for the City of Oakland. A native of Nigeria, she received her BA in Modern European languages (French and German) at University of Benin, Nigeria. Veronica is a dedicated specialist in Early Childhood Education and received an MA in Education from Mills College and an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership from Pepperdine University. Formerly Executive Director of UC Berkeley Early Education Program, she is also an adjunct education instructor at Chabot College and CSU East Bay. She is an active supporter of girls’ education and the rights of girls, youth and women in Nigeria and globally. She is on the Board of the United Nations Association-East Bay and Chair of the UN Flag Day.
