Amos White at Alameda Authors Series 2


For the second year, AAUW Alameda and Oakmont of Cardinal Point present a spring series of talks featuring authors who live and write in Alameda. Our March author Amos White will present selections from his poetry and discuss the creative process and current projects. About the author:

Amos White is an American haiku poet and author of “The Sound of the Web: Haiku and Poetry on Facebook and Twitter” (, recognized for his vivid imagery and breathless interpretations. He was a Finalist in the NPR National Cherry Blossom Haiku Contest 2013 and has works published in The Wittenberg Review, Oakland Review, Bones Journal, San Francisco BayView, Area 17, World Haiku Association Anthology. He is President of Bay Area Generations literary reading series; Host of The Heart of the Muse arts salon; Producer of Beyond Words: Jazz + Poetry show. Amos lives in Alameda with his family.

Cinema Club

AAUW Cinema Club is open to members and spouses or partners of members. We see a movie at the Alameda Theatre & Cineplex Sunday afternoon, followed by refreshments and conversation at Tucker’s Ice Cream or happy hour refreshments at Cinema Grill.  We vote on the film to attend the week before, when the schedule comes out. We meet at the Alameda Theatre October through June; summer events are sometimes scheduled at nearby East Bay theaters such as the Piedmont, the Grand Lake, or theaters in Berkeley.

Third Monday Book Club

The Third Monday Book Club meets at 1:30pm on the third Monday of each month starting September 18th.  Our group shares brief reviews of books members have recently read and we often swap books.  Members take turns hosting and providing a dessert in their homes .

Museum Group

The Museum Group meets on the third Thursday of each month from September through June. We go to various museums in the Bay Area to see the latest art shows. Included most years are the de Young, Palace of the Legion of Honor, Cantor at Stanford, Asian Art, MOMA and Oakland Museums. The carpool meets at Ross’ parking lot at South Shore to leave at 9:30 a.m. sharp. We have lunch at the museum and return between 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. Interested persons may contact Judy Sparks, Barbara Ihling, or Marlis White.
